You may
have heard some of these phrases regarding your child:
It's just
a phase he's going through.
He'll grow out of it.
He just needs some firm discipline.
He doesn't look autistic.
You may
want to reply:
Please
don't say that.
Please don't stare and make judgements.
Please try to understand he cannot grow out of it.
It is not a phase in his life.
It is something that we have to help him adapt to.
Discipline
that works for some children doesn't work for mine.
You cannot tell an autistic child by their appearance.
I know her behaviour is alarming but please try to understand I'm
doing the best that I can.
